Phil’s Journey to Employment

Phil embarked on his journey with the IPS program in January 2025, seeking part-time employment in the Willmar area. Having previously participated in the program, he was familiar with its structure and the support available. Though he had previously secured a job he truly enjoyed, a back injury made it impossible for him to continue. Determined to return to work, Phil turned to IPS once more, though he had some doubts about his ability to find a suitable position.

By the end of February, Phil and his IPS Specialist participated in a job shadowing experience at PerMar Securities. His dedication and potential were quickly recognized, leading to an offer for a part-time security guard role at the Jennie-O site. Beginning in early March with two shifts per week, Phil soon realized that this job was unlike any of his previous experiences. He found that even on days when his anxiety was high, he could manage his shift effectively, gaining confidence in his ability to succeed. His excitement about work grew, reinforcing his belief in his own capabilities.

In early April, Phil was offered a full-time position with PerMar—an opportunity he eagerly accepted. His transition to full-time employment has been remarkably smooth, and he continues to express satisfaction with his job. His journey stands as a testament to his resilience, courage, and determination to rebuild his career.

Now, Phil is turning his focus to a new goal: learning how to manage his earnings as he navigates financial independence. When asked what advice he would give to others considering the IPS program, his message was clear—“Get in the program now!” Phil emphasized how invaluable the program's support had been, from job research to ongoing encouragement in the application process. The guidance he received kept him motivated and ensured he stayed on track, proving that perseverance truly pays off.
